How does this fixture generator work?
This fixture generator builds a complete cricket schedule from a team list. Round robin uses the circle rotation method so every team plays every other once, with a bye each round when the team count is odd. Knockout seeds a bracket and places byes in the first round. Groups plus knockout splits teams evenly, runs a round robin inside each group, then builds the bracket from the qualifiers.
How to use it
- Paste your team list, one per line. In a knockout the order is the seeding, so put the strongest sides first.
- Pick a format. The match count updates immediately, so you can test whether a format fits before committing to it.
- Enter your venues and the slots each one offers per day. Leave them blank if you only want the pairings.
- Check the warnings. They flag back-to-back matches, uneven groups and how many days the schedule needs.
- Download the CSV and publish it, or carry the list into your tournament platform.
What it does that a hand-built grid does not
- Round robin completeness. The circle rotation guarantees every pair meets exactly once. A hand-drawn schedule that omits one pairing looks fine and means two teams never play.
- Even bye distribution. With an odd team count, no team takes a second bye before every team has taken one.
- Knockout byes to the top seeds. A random bye is a free pass to the next round decided by luck rather than by the group stage.
- Rest intervals. Checked per team rather than per ground, which is the view that makes a back-to-back visible. Why that check is the one people skip.
Working out whether a format fits
The match count is fixed by the format and team count before any scheduling happens, so it is the first thing to check. Twelve teams in a single round robin is 66 matches, which across two grounds at four slots a day is more than eight days of cricket.
If the count does not fit your slots, the format decision has already been made for you. Format comparison with match counts sets out the alternatives, and the fixtures guide has the slots-per-ground figures by match length.
Everything stays on your device
The generator runs entirely in your browser. No team names are uploaded, no account is needed, and closing the tab discards everything. The CSV is generated locally and opens in Excel and Google Sheets.
Fixture generator FAQ
How does the generator handle an odd number of teams?
It adds a phantom team to the rotation. Whichever real team is drawn against the phantom takes the bye that round, and the rotation guarantees no team takes a second bye before every other team has taken one.
Does it assign venues and time slots?
Yes, if you enter them. Matches are distributed across the venues and slots you provide in round order, keeping at least one slot between a team’s consecutive matches wherever the slot count allows it.
Can I export the fixture list?
Yes, as CSV, which opens in Excel and Google Sheets. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded anywhere and no account is needed.
How many matches will my tournament have?
The generator shows the total before it builds the list. A single round robin of n teams is n×(n−1)/2 matches, a knockout is n−1, and groups plus knockout is the sum of each group’s round robin plus the bracket.
